The Palmer Divide is the hardest place in our territory to heat a house. A thousand feet higher than Colorado Springs, colder, snowier, and full of big two-story homes with great rooms. This is where sizing for altitude stops being a nicety and starts being the whole job.

Combustion tuned for thin air

Gas appliances burn differently at 7,000 feet. A furnace installed with sea-level settings runs rich, soots up its heat exchanger, and shortens its own life. Every furnace we commission in Monument gets a combustion analysis with the numbers left on a tag inside the cabinet, so the next tech, ours or anyone's, can see what right looked like.

Two-stage furnaces earn their keep here

Down in Fountain a single-stage furnace is often the sensible buy. Up here the winter is long enough that a two-stage or modulating furnace pays for its premium in comfort and gas bills. Long, low burns also do a far better job pushing heat to the far ends of the big floor plans this area favors.

Heat pumps, with eyes open

Cold-climate heat pumps genuinely work on the Divide now, and we install them regularly. But we install them as dual-fuel systems with the gas furnace kept as backup, with the switchover point set from your actual utility rates. An all-electric setup that pencils out in town can produce startling bills in a Monument January, and we would rather show you that math before you buy than after.

When it snows, we say so

Monument Hill weather is its own dispatcher. When I-25 is a mess we will tell you a real arrival window rather than a flattering one, and no-heat calls in Tri-Lakes jump the queue ahead of everything routine.
